QR Code, OTP to Replace Aadhaar Photocopies at Hotel Check-Ins

The process of checking into hotels could soon become simpler and more secure as digital identity verification methods are being promoted in place of collecting photocopies of Aadhaar cards.
Under the new system, hotels may verify guests through QR codes, OTPs or app-based digital processes, reducing the need to submit physical copies of identity documents at the reception desk.

The move is aimed at making identity verification faster while also improving the security and privacy of guests’ personal information. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is encouraging digital methods for identity verification, including in sectors such as hotels and hospitality.
