Pradhan Highlights Nutrition as Nuakhai’s True Spirit

Union Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan marked Nuakhai in Sambalpur on Tuesday by participating in Nabanna celebrations and calling for greater social responsibility towards the nutritional well-being of mothers and children.

Pradhan began the celebrations by visiting the residence of BJP Sambalpur district president Ramachandra Meher, where he shared Nabanna with Meher’s family and party workers. He later offered prayers at the Samaleswari Temple and joined a gathering attended by delegates from various parts of the country, intellectuals, journalists and members of the Rangabati Forum.
At a special programme hosted by the Rangabati Forum, Pradhan highlighted the cultural importance of Nuakhai and Sambalpur’s distinctive heritage. He urged people to preserve the region’s traditions while taking steps to promote its cultural attractions and tourism opportunities.
He also participated in Nuakhai Bhetghat programmes organised by the Marwari Yuva Manch, Odisha Sanskrutika Samaj and other social and cultural groups.
Describing Nuakhai as a symbol of Odisha’s cultural identity, Pradhan said the festival reflects the values of mutual respect, affection and social unity. He also acknowledged the contribution of farmers, whose labour and sacrifices form the foundation of the agricultural festival.

Quoting Swabhaba Kabi Gangadhar Meher’s ‘Annar Mahima’, Pradhan underlined the importance of food in human life. He said that despite sufficient food production in the country, providing nutritious food to everyone continues to be a significant challenge.
Pradhan stressed that the essence of Nuakhai should extend beyond celebration to a commitment towards balanced nutrition and healthier lives. He called for collective efforts to protect the health of newborns, children and mothers and ensure a healthier future for the coming generation.
