Odisha Vigilance Arrests Dasmantpur IIC for Allegedly Taking Rs 20,000 Bribe

Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested Sukma Hansdah, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 to submit a case diary in court.

According to official sources, Hansdah had allegedly demanded the bribe from a relative of an accused person in exchange for producing the case diary before the court, a move that would facilitate the accused’s bail. Following the demand, the complainant approached the Odisha Vigilance authorities.

Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Hansdah red-handed while he was accepting the bribe amount. The entire sum of Rs 20,000 was recovered from his possession and subsequently seized.

Vigilance officials have also launched searches at two locations linked to the accused officer from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle. Further investigation in the matter is underway.

A case has been registered against Hansdah at Koraput Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 39/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Authorities said the probe is ongoing.
