Odisha Reels Under Severe Heatwave; Jharsuguda Sizzles at 45.5°C

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under an intense heatwave on Wednesday as temperatures soared past 45°C in several parts of the state, triggering widespread discomfort and heat stress among residents.

Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state, recording a scorching 45.5°C. The state capital Bhubaneswar also experienced sweltering conditions with the mercury touching 42.2°C.

According to weather reports, at least 22 towns across Odisha recorded temperatures above 40°C, indicating the severity of the prevailing heatwave.

Sambalpur and Bolangir registered 44.6°C each, while Hirakud and Titlagarh followed closely at 44.5°C. Sonepur recorded 44.3°C and Boudh 44.2°C. Talcher and Bhawanipatna witnessed 43.8°C each, whereas Anugul reported 43.6°C.

Several other districts also remained under severe heat stress. Nayagarh and Sundargarh recorded 42.4°C each, followed by Bargarh at 42.3°C. Malkangiri and Khordha registered 42.0°C each.

Phulbani recorded 41.6°C, Dhenkanal 41.4°C, Keonjhar 41.3°C, Kendrapada 41.2°C, Rourkela 41.1°C, and Baripada 40.4°C.

The prolonged spell of extreme heat has disrupted normal life across the state, with residents struggling to cope with the soaring temperatures. With no immediate relief in sight, the heatwave conditions are expected to persist in many parts of Odisha over the next few days.
