Odisha Launches New Wildlife Research Scheme During Wildlife Week

Odisha marked Wildlife Week 2026 with a state-level programme at the State Convention Centre in Loka Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, highlighting the state’s ongoing efforts in wildlife conservation, research and eco-tourism.
Forest officials, researchers, conservationists and nature enthusiasts attended the event, which was led by Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Singkhuntia said Wildlife Week provides an opportunity to deepen the relationship between people and nature and renew collective efforts to protect wildlife.

The minister said Odisha’s recent conservation initiatives have been supported by scientific methods, modern technology, administrative measures and the efforts of forest staff working closely with local communities.
A video showcasing the achievements of the Wildlife Wing over the past two years was also presented during the programme. Participants were also shown highlights of awareness activities organised across districts as part of Wildlife Week.

A key announcement was the launch of CM-GROW (Chief Minister’s Grant for Research on Odisha’s Wildlife). The initiative is aimed at strengthening scientific research on Odisha’s wildlife and ecosystems by supporting researchers and academic institutions.
The programme also highlighted plans to promote new eco-tourism destinations as part of the state’s broader strategy to combine wildlife conservation with sustainable development.
