Odisha Intensifies Action Against Illegal LPG Stockpiling, 8,349 Cylinders Seized

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has stepped up enforcement against the unauthorised storage and black-marketing of LPG cylinders, with authorities conducting raids at thousands of locations across the state.

According to data from the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, enforcement teams have so far carried out inspections and raids at 3,808 places. During the operations, officials seized 8,349 LPG cylinders suspected to have been illegally stocked or handled.

The crackdown has also resulted in legal action against those allegedly involved in the unauthorised trade. As many as 46 FIRs have been registered, while 495 cases have been initiated under the Essential Commodities (EC) Act. Nine people have also been arrested in connection with the violations.

The department said the enforcement drive is aimed at preventing illegal hoarding and black-marketing of LPG cylinders and ensuring that legitimate consumers do not face difficulties in accessing cooking gas.

Officials added that inspections and action against unauthorised storage and sale of LPG cylinders will continue across Odisha.
