Heavy Rain Pounds Parts of Northern Odisha, Mayurbhanj Records Highest Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of northern Odisha witnessed intense rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Mayurbhanj district recording some of the highest precipitation figures, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Bangiriposhi in Mayurbhanj received the highest rainfall at 159 mm, making it the wettest location among the stations that recorded significant precipitation during the period. Chandanpur and Bijatala, also in Mayurbhanj, recorded 99.6 mm and 90 mm, respectively.

Other areas also experienced substantial rainfall. Bhogorai in Baleshwar received 73 mm, while Sarasakana in Mayurbhanj recorded 72 mm. Joda in Kendujhar registered 58.4 mm, followed by Jamda in Mayurbhanj with 56 mm and Remuna in Baleshwar with 53 mm.

Despite the intense spells reported from several pockets, rainfall remained below normal when assessed across the state. Odisha recorded an average of 4.5 mm of rain against the normal rainfall of 12.1 mm, reflecting a 63% deficit.

The rainfall pattern indicates that while isolated areas, particularly in northern Odisha, received heavy downpours, the overall state remained deficient in rainfall during the period.
