Odisha HC Seeks Replies in BJD MLAs’ Cross-Voting Case
Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has sought responses from Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, the Assembly Secretary and eight BJD MLAs in a case challenging the rejection of their proposed disqualification over alleged cross-voting in the March 16 Rajya Sabha elections.
A bench of Justice R K Patnaik admitted the BJD’s petition on Friday and directed the respondents to file their replies by the next hearing on September 29.
The BJD had sought action against eight MLAs, alleging violation of the party whip during the Rajya Sabha polls. Speaker Surama Padhy rejected the pleas in June, citing deficiencies in the documents and insufficient verification and supporting evidence.
