Odisha Govt Extends Internet Restrictions in Cuttack for 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has extended the internet restrictions in Cuttack for another 24 hours, citing security concerns and the potential misuse of social media platforms.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, the restrictions came into effect at 7:00 PM on October 6, 2025, and will remain in force until 7:00 PM on October 7, 2025.

The government stated that the decision was taken to prevent anti-social elements from spreading rumours and inciting public disaffection through social networking sites and instant messaging services.

The suspension covers mobile internet and data services of all mobile operators, broadband and dial-up systems, and internet/data services of all ISPs. Social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Snapchat, and similar services, will also remain inaccessible during this period.

However, essential government and institutional networks such as OSWAN (Odisha State Wide Area Network), NIC Net, National Knowledge Network (NKN), banking, railway, and other government services are exempted from the ban.

The restrictions apply to Cuttack City, covering the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) area, Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) region, and the 42 Mauza area.

Authorities have warned that violations of the order will invite legal action under the relevant provisions of law.

The state government has urged citizens to cooperate with the administration and refrain from sharing or circulating unverified information during the restriction period.
