Indian Shooters Bag Two Silver Medals at Asian Games in Nagoya

India opened its medal account at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya with two silver medals in shooting, with Elavenil Valarivan playing a key role in both achievements.
Elavenil secured the silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event after scoring 252.4 in the final. Japan’s Hinata Taichi claimed gold with a Games-record 253 points.

Earlier, India won silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event. Elavenil, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod combined for a total of 1897 points to finish second behind China, which topped the competition with 1904.2 points.
Sonam was India’s highest scorer in qualification with 634.1 points and finished fourth individually, while Elavenil recorded 633.5 to rank seventh.

President Droupadi Murmu congratulated the Indian shooting team, saying the achievement opened India’s medal tally at the Games and was a matter of great pride for the country.
