Odisha CM Launches ‘Jeevan Jindabad 2.0’, Calls for Addiction-Free State

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday launched Commissionerate Police’s ‘Jeevan Jindabad 2.0’ campaign, calling for concerted efforts to make Odisha addiction-free.
Addressing students, youth and senior police officials at the Railway Auditorium in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said addiction harms individuals, families and society, and reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance approach towards substance abuse.
The CM said the campaign aims to steer young people away from drugs and other addictive substances and towards education, sports and creative activities. He also inaugurated a dedicated Commissionerate Police website linked to the Nashamukta Bharat initiative.
Expressing concern over substance abuse and its links to crime and violence, Majhi directed police and excise officials to intensify action against drugs including cannabis, opium, cocaine, heroin, brown sugar and synthetic substances.
He highlighted key measures under the new excise policy, including a three-year freeze on opening new liquor shops, accountability of local administrations for illicit and poisonous liquor, and a ban on tobacco- and nicotine-based pan masala and gutka. School and college campuses have also been declared addiction-free zones.
Majhi urged parents to remain alert to sudden behavioural changes among children and called on people to spread the campaign’s message: “No to addiction, yes to life” and “Life is beautiful, don’t destroy it.”
DGP Vinaytosh Mishra, Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, senior officials, artists and a large number of students and youth attended the programme.
