Nitish Kumar Unanimously Re-Elected JD(U) Legislature Party Leader; Set to Take Oath as CM on Nov 20

Patna: Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Nitish Kumar was on Wednesday unanimously re-elected as the leader of the Janata Dal (United) legislative party, paving the way for his oath-taking as Chief Minister on November 20 at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan.

The upcoming ceremony will mark Nitish Kumar’s tenth term as Chief Minister — a milestone that highlights his enduring influence and experience in Bihar’s political landscape. Known for his central role in coalition politics, Kumar continues to be regarded as one of the state’s most seasoned administrators.

All JD(U) MLAs attended Wednesday’s meeting, signaling unity within the party and reinforcing confidence in Kumar’s leadership. Senior leaders said Bihar needs stable and firm governance, adding that the state’s development pace can accelerate only under his stewardship.

Nitish Kumar also indicated that a new development roadmap, including fresh schemes and policies, is likely to be unveiled in the coming months in line with the state’s new political equation.

With the JD(U) formalizing its choice, focus now shifts to the NDA legislative party meeting, where the alliance’s leader will be officially selected. However, alliance sources say the NDA is almost certain to endorse Nitish Kumar as its leader following the JD(U)’s unanimous decision.

The meeting is also expected to clarify the BJP’s role in the new government, particularly the selection of Deputy Chief Ministers. Several names are doing the rounds within the party, but a final decision will be made after consultations between central and state leaders.

Meanwhile, preparations for the grand swearing-in ceremony at Gandhi Maidan are in full swing. Officials have completed arrangements for security, traffic control, VVIP movement, and public seating. The venue is being extensively decorated, with special attention to stage design, audience enclosures, and media arrangements.

A number of prominent national leaders are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers.
