Jajpur: A major breach in the embankment of the Baitarani River near Kuanra Sahi in Ward No. 4 of Duduranta panchayat under Dasarathpur block was repaired and secured on Tuesday, bringing some relief to residents in the vulnerable area.

The breach, reportedly the fourth at the same location, was the largest so far and had raised serious concerns over the safety of nearby areas, particularly amid the prevailing flood situation.

Following the incident, the Water Resources Department took up restoration work on an urgent basis. The damaged section of the embankment has now been repaired and protective measures have been put in place to prevent further deterioration and safeguard nearby settlements.

Officials said additional strengthening work is continuing along the affected stretch. The ongoing measures are focused on improving the stability of the embankment and preventing further erosion or damage caused by the river.

Engineers and field officials of the department are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular surveillance of the embankment. They are also overseeing the strengthening work to ensure that necessary safety measures are carried out properly.

The restoration of the major breach has provided immediate relief to local residents. However, continued monitoring and reinforcement of the embankment will remain crucial to prevent further breaches and protect the surrounding areas.
