LOPAR forms over South Andaman Sea, rainfall in several districts in past 24 hours

Bhubaneswar, May 6:  A low pressure area has formed over the South Andaman Sea and neighboring Southeast Bay of Bengal under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over South Andaman Sea & neighborhood, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday.

It said the system is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression during the subsequent 48 hours and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during May 6 to 8.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into Andaman Sea during the next three days; into Southeast and central Bay of Bengal during the next five days.

Meanwhile, several areas of Odisha experienced rain since Thursday evening.  Rainfall was reported from several areas of Puri,Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur Jajpur, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Angul, Bhadrak and Balasore districts. The wind speed varied between 40 to 50 km per hour during the rainfall period in several areas in the coastal districts, reports reaching here said.

However, the Weather Office said that more is likely during the next 24 hours and the wind velocity is likely to be around 60 to 70km per hour.
