Honeybee Attack Injures Teachers at School

Panic spread across Shishu Mandir in Nilagiri, Balasore district, when a swarm of honeybees attacked teachers and students on Thursday morning.


Three teachers sustained serious injuries, while a girl student also suffered stings.

The injured teachers were identified as Krushna Chandra Hota, Prabhamanjari Nayak, and Deeptimayi Prusti. All three received treatment at Nilagiri Hospital. Doctors reported that Hota’s condition remains critical.

The incident began when Hota, a resident of Gopinathpur, entered the school premises with his daughter. Bees suddenly attacked the girl, prompting Hota to intervene. The swarm turned aggressive, stinging him repeatedly. Two female teachers rushed to help but were also attacked.

Chaos followed as staff and students fled the scene. School authorities immediately suspended classes and declared a holiday to ensure safety.

Medical teams treated the injured, while local residents expressed concern over the sudden aggression of the bees. Experts have yet to determine the reason behind the attack.
