Dawn-to-Dusk Bandh Disrupts Normal Life in Birmaharajpur

Birmaharajpur (Pramit Pramathes Satpathy): A 12-hour bandh is being observed in Birmaharajpur Sub-Division of Subarnapur district on Thursday following tensions over an alleged incident during an Ambedkar procession. The shutdown was called by Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad after claims surfaced that a photograph of Lord Shri Ram was torn during the procession held on Tuesday.

The bandh, which remained in force from 6 am to 6 pm, disrupted normal life across the town. Shops and markets remained closed, while educational institutions, government and private offices also suspended operations. Vehicular movement was largely affected, with roads wearing a deserted look.

Widespread Shutdown and Picketing

Members of Bajrang Dal staged picketing at several locations to enforce the bandh. The impact was visible across Birmaharajpur, with minimal public movement reported throughout the day. Authorities kept a close watch on essential services to ensure no major disruptions.

Police on High Alert, Case Registered

Police forces were deployed at sensitive points to maintain law and order. Officials said security arrangements were tightened to prevent any untoward incident during the bandh.

Condemning the alleged act, organisers demanded strict action against those responsible. A case has been registered at Birmaharajpur police station in connection with the incident. Local residents also extended support to the bandh, stating that the incident had hurt public sentiments.
