Class VIII Student Found Hanging in Hostel in Nabarangapur, Probe Underway

Nabarangapur: A Class VIII student was found hanging inside the hostel of Bhamini Ashram School under Umerkote block in Nabarangapur district on Thursday, triggering shock and concern in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Prashant Bhatra, son of Parameswar Bhatra from Badakumari village. He had reportedly joined the hostel just two days prior to the incident.

According to initial reports, Prashant’s body was discovered hanging inside the hostel premises on Thursday morning. While the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

On receiving information, police personnel reached the spot, recovered the body, and initiated an investigation into the incident. Sources said the student had returned to the hostel only two days ago, making the circumstances surrounding his death particularly concerning.

The incident has raised serious questions among local residents, who have expressed doubts over how the hostel authorities, including the warden and headmaster, remained unaware of the boy’s condition or any possible distress.

Authorities have assured that a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the tragic death.
