High Alert in Puri, Security Tightened After Delhi Blast

Bhubaneswar: Authorities in Odisha have issued a high alert in Puri and Sambalpur following a massive explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening that killed at least 10 people and injured over two dozen others, according to media reports.

Soon after the blast, security was tightened across key locations in Puri, including the Jagannath Temple, Grand Road, Puri Beach, bus stand, and railway station, said Puri SP Prateek Singh. He added that the Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs) of all police stations in Puri have been instructed to intensify patrolling and surveillance to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, in Sambalpur district, security has been stepped up at the Hirakud Dam, one of the state’s most critical infrastructure points. SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said police have been directed to strengthen security arrangements around the dam and other vital installations in the district.

According to initial reports from Delhi, the explosion occurred around 6:52 PM near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort, when a slow-moving car suddenly exploded. The vehicle was completely gutted in the blast, and the flames spread to several nearby cars, causing extensive damage.

The explosion has prompted authorities across multiple states, including Odisha, to remain on heightened alert, with additional forces deployed at sensitive and religious sites.
