Delhi Leads India in Electric Mobility Adoption

NITI Aayog has released the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025, with Delhi emerging as the top-performing State/UT in electric mobility adoption. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chandigarh and Goa followed among the leading performers.

The second edition of the index evaluates all States and Union Territories on their progress towards electric mobility goals, covering 16 indicators across three areas: transport electrification, charging infrastructure and EV research and innovation.
NITI Aayog Member Rajiv Gauba said the shift to electric mobility is crucial for India’s economic, environmental and strategic goals under Viksit Bharat 2047. He noted that electric vehicles could account for around 40% of new car sales by 2040.

The top IEMI score also rose from 77 in 2024 to 84 in 2025, reflecting improvement in electric mobility preparedness and implementation across States and UTs.
