₹3,406 Crore Silicon Carbide Semiconductor Unit Approved for Odisha

Odisha is set to get its second semiconductor manufacturing facility after the Unit Approval Committee cleared SiCSem Private Limited’s proposal to establish a silicon carbide semiconductor unit at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha district.

The project, under the Falta Special Economic Zone (FSEZ), will be developed across 21.889 acres with an investment of ₹3,406.25 crore. It is expected to generate employment for around 1,270 people.

The proposed facility will manufacture Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor devices, including 4.8 million SiC diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs annually. These components are used in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, power electronics and other high-performance applications.

The unit is projected to achieve export turnover of ₹7,043 crore and net foreign exchange earnings of approximately ₹4,523 crore over five years.

The approval is expected to strengthen Odisha’s semiconductor ecosystem and expand its high-tech manufacturing capabilities. The state has so far attracted five semiconductor investment proposals worth ₹10,899 crore, supported by state incentives and the India Semiconductor Mission.

The development follows the April 19, 2026, groundbreaking of India’s first advanced glass semiconductor packaging unit by Heterogeneous Integration Packaging Solutions (3D Glass Solutions) in Bhubaneswar, involving an investment of ₹1,943 crore.
