Cuttack Rural Police Secures Conviction in Illegal Cattle Transportation and Organized Crime Case

Cuttack: Cuttack Rural Police has achieved a significant success in combating illegal cattle transportation and organized criminal activities with the conviction of the accused in Khuntuni Police Station Case No. 33 dated 03.02.2026.

The case was registered under Sections 296, 303(2), 111(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 11(a)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The investigation was conducted by SI S. Das of Khuntuni Police Station and the prosecution was effectively conducted by Sri Debasish Shit, Additional Public Prosecutor.

The case originated on 03.02.2026 when a police patrol team of Khuntuni Police Station, acting on specific intelligence, conducted a raid at Champapur village and detected an illegal cattle transportation operation. Several cattle were found in distressing conditions and two mini trucks used for transportation were seized.

The investigation was completed within 99 days, charges were framed within 6 days of filing the charge sheet, and the trial was concluded within 32 days. The learned ADJ Court, Athagarh, pronounced the judgment on 20.06.2026, convicting the accused under the relevant provisions of BNS and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The Court sentenced the accused to rigorous imprisonment and imposed substantial fines, including life imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,00,000 under the applicable provisions of law.

This conviction reflects the commitment of Odisha Police and Cuttack Rural Police towards curbing organized crime, preventing illegal cattle transportation, and ensuring swift investigation and prosecution for effective delivery of justice.
