Crackdown on illegal sand mining in Puri, 8 hyvas and 2 excavators seized

Gop: In a bid to curb illegal sand mining, Puri Mining department along with Police Special Squad carried out a surprise raid at Terahal on the Bhargavi riverbed under Balanga police limits in Puri district and seized 18 sand-laden Hyva trucks, two excavators, and detained more than 10 persons.

During the raid, the officials seized 18 Hyva trucks loaded with sand and two JCB excavators allegedly being used for mining activities. More than 10 people present at the site were also taken into custody for questioning.

According to sources, illegal sand extraction had been operating at the Terahal ghat in Nimapada block during both day and night. Till now the authorities have not released the details of the seized machinery.
