Class V Student Dies At Kandhamal Ashram School, Family Alleges Negligence

Kandhamal: Tension prevailed at Sudra Ashram School under Baliguda block in Odisha’s Kandhamal district following the death of a Class V girl student, with her family alleging negligence on the part of the school authorities and the hostel matron.

The deceased has been identified as Kajal Malik, a resident of Baulamaha village. According to her family, Kajal was suffering from fever since the previous day. However, the school authorities allegedly failed to inform them about her deteriorating health condition.

While the school authorities claimed that the girl was taken to Sudra, Barkhama and Baliguda medical facilities for treatment, her family alleged that she was shifted to the hospital only after her condition became critical.

The incident has triggered resentment among the family members, who have held the school authorities responsible for the student’s death.

Reacting to the incident, the District Education Officer (DEO) said he had discussed the matter with the District Welfare Officer (DWO). He assured that a detailed inquiry would be conducted after the girl’s last rites and strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
