Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police Issues Advisory Against Investment Scams

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has cautioned people against falling prey to fraudulent investment schemes promising unusually high returns. The advisory comes amid growing instances of scammers luring victims with attractive profit offers and fake investment opportunities.
In a post on X, the Commissionerate Police urged citizens to exercise caution before investing their money through any company, platform or online scheme. People have been advised to verify the credentials and regulatory registration of investment firms before making any financial commitment.

The police also warned citizens against downloading or using unfamiliar mobile applications and visiting unauthorised investment websites. Such platforms could be used by fraudsters to gain access to users’ financial information and siphon off their money.
Citizens have further been asked not to disclose sensitive details, including one-time passwords (OTPs), PINs, bank account information and other personal data, to unknown individuals.
The Commissionerate Police advised anyone receiving suspicious investment proposals to report them to the authorities without delay. Those who have already fallen victim to an online financial scam can contact the cybercrime helpline at 1930 or file a complaint through cybercrime.gov.in.
The police stressed that promises of unusually high or “excessive” profits should be treated as a potential warning sign of fraud and urged people to remain vigilant while making online investments.
“Be Alert. Be Safe. Protect Your Hard-Earned Money,” the Commissionerate Police said in its advisory.
