Himachal Pradesh to Get 320 More PG Medical Seats with ₹415 Crore Central Funding

The Centre has sanctioned 320 additional postgraduate medical seats for six medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh, aiming to expand specialist medical education and improve healthcare facilities across the state.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda announced the decision through a video message, stating that the project would receive financial assistance of approximately ₹415 crore from the Central Government.

The newly approved seats will be distributed among six medical institutions. Hamirpur will receive 57 seats, Chamba 28, Mandi 55, Nahan 32, Shimla 91 and Tanda 57.

According to the minister, the expansion is part of the Centre’s broader strategy to strengthen medical education and address the growing demand for specialised healthcare professionals. The additional seats are expected to create more opportunities for medical graduates to pursue advanced training in disciplines such as surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and oncology.

Nadda also called upon the Himachal Pradesh government to ensure that all 320 newly sanctioned seats are utilised effectively, enabling the state to benefit fully from the initiative and further strengthen its healthcare system.
