India Completes Nationwide Target of 11 Crore Farmer IDs Five Months Ahead of Schedule

The Centre has achieved a major milestone in its efforts to digitise agricultural services, completing the creation of 11 crore Farmer IDs across the country well ahead of the original deadline.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the achievement through a video message, stating that the target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for March 2027 had been accomplished five months in advance. The goal was reached by the night of October 23, 2026.
The Farmer ID initiative is designed to establish a more transparent and efficient system for delivering government assistance to eligible farmers. The identification system is expected to simplify access to essential agricultural services, including bank credit, crop insurance, compensation for losses caused by natural disasters and the sale of agricultural produce.

According to the minister, the digital initiative will help ensure that government benefits reach the intended beneficiaries while reducing difficulties in accessing various schemes. The adoption of modern technology is also expected to improve the efficiency of agricultural services and make farming-related processes more convenient for farmers.
Chouhan congratulated and expressed his gratitude to officials and employees of the Central Government, state governments, Union Territories and district administrations for their coordinated efforts in achieving the nationwide target ahead of schedule.
