SSB Praised for Rescue Efforts in Nepal Tragedy

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has praised the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) for its commendable humanitarian assistance and rescue operations during the recent tragedy in Nepal.
In a written message for the SSB’s investiture ceremony, Shah said the force’s quick, coordinated and sensitive response during crises reflects its motto of “Service, Security and Brotherhood.” He described SSB personnel deployed along the borders as vigilant protectors, first responders during disasters and representatives of India’s goodwill.

Home Secretary Govind Mohan said border security remains a key priority for the government, with continuous vigilance planned across India’s 15,000-km international borders. He said the government’s four-pronged border security strategy will involve border guarding forces, state personnel, central agencies and local communities, with the SSB playing an important role.

SSB Director General Sanjay Singhal said the force is actively combating narcotics, illegal weapons, counterfeit currency, human trafficking, illegal immigration and other organised crimes. He also highlighted its role in internal security, Left-Wing Extremism operations, elections, law and order and disaster management.
The SSB is responsible for guarding the India-Nepal and India-Bhutan borders. Around 46,000 vehicles and 3.25 lakh people cross the India-Nepal border daily, while nearly 8,000 vehicles and 50,000 people cross the India-Bhutan border.
At the ceremony, 18 SSB personnel received gallantry medals and five were honoured with medals for distinguished service. The Home Secretary also inaugurated new housing projects for SSB personnel
