Suna Besha 2026: Bhubaneswar–Puri NH witness massive traffic jam as devotees travel to Puri

Puri: The Bhubaneswar–Puri National Highway has witnessed massive traffic jam lasting hours on Saturday, July 25, 2026, as a massive surge of devotees traveled toward Puri for the sacred Suna Besha ritual of Lord Jagannath and his sibling deities.
The extreme heavy inflow of vehicles from Bhubaneswar towards Puri, which has caused the waiting time at the Malatipatpur has surged to 1.5 hours and is expected to increase.
The Police DG is trying to manage the surge of vehicles and keep the situation under control from traffic Control Room.
The Police DG has also called a meeting with senior officials to find alternatives for the current issue.
Moreover, the traffic situation was also being broadcasted to the oncoming vehicles and people through LEDs and social media posts.
According to the advisory, the flow of traffic from Bhubaneswar to Puri is increasing continuously. To control the situation and avoid traffic jams, all the vehicles are being diverted towards Talabania Axis.
Similarly, at Maltipatpur, the waiting time is currently 30 to 45 minutes and if the pressure of traffic increases further, the traffic police has informed that this waiting time may increase further. Odisha Police has requested the devotees and passengers to travel with patience and cooperate with the traffic police personnel on duty. It has also been advised to strictly follow the traffic instructions for a safe and orderly journey.
