Heavy rain alert: Odisha to witness six more days of rain

Bhubaneswar: A light shower has been persisting in Bhubaneswar from early morning, and the spell of rainfall across Odisha will continue for the next six days.

This year’s first low-pressure system in monsoon season will likely be formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on July 3.

As a low-pressure system will likely form, but future intensity and impact would still be decided, mentioned IMD.

Weather officials predicted that Odisha will continue to receive rainfall from Monday until July 6.

Between the seven-day spell, there would be light to heavy rainfall in some parts and increase in intensity from Monday.

Some places may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

According to the records, from June 1 to the current day, Odisha should have received an average of 209 mm of rain during the monsoon season, whereas the state has recorded only 110 mm, which constitutes a deficit of 46%. Authorities expect that the low pressure will help improve the deficit.

Due to its influence, rain has been continuing in many parts of the state from the morning including Angul, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khordha, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Koraput, Puri, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Deogarh, and Sambalpur.
