Powerful Blast Near Delhi’s Red Fort Kills 10, Triggers Nationwide High Alert

New Delhi: A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening killed at least 10 people and left a dozen others injured, sending shockwaves across the national capital and prompting heightened security measures nationwide. Authorities in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai have declared a high alert, with special attention to sensitive locations, including the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, where security has been intensified.

According to officials, multiple parked cars caught fire after the blast, causing chaos in the densely populated Old Delhi area. Several fire engines and ambulances were rushed to the site, and the injured were taken to LNJP Hospital.

Following the explosion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah to review the situation. Sources said the Prime Minister has taken a detailed stock of the incident. Meanwhile, the Home Minister held discussions with Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, IB Chief Tapan Deka, and NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date, instructing the NIA to dispatch a special investigation team to the site.

While the cause of the explosion remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest the possibility of a terror link, though no official confirmation has been issued yet.

In a related development earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Police busted an inter-state terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, seizing 2,900 kg of explosives, assault rifles, pistols, and timers in Faridabad, Haryana, near Delhi. Seven individuals were arrested in that operation.

The twin developments — the massive arms seizure and the Red Fort explosion — have raised serious security concerns, particularly as they occur a day before the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as forensic teams and security agencies comb the blast site for evidence.
