Apartment in Maharashtra partially collapses

Maharashtra: At least 14 people died when the rear portion of a four-storey Ramabai Apartments building Vasai, Maharashtra collapsed on Monday. Rescue operations are underway.

Reportedly, the incident happened in Ramabai Apartment located between Chamunda Nagar and Vijay Nagar on Narangi Road in Vasai on Monday night, August 25. The rear section of the building gave away suddenly. Rescue teams, including the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Fire Department and two NDRF units, were deployed to the site. So far 11 people were rescued and admitted to hospitals in Virar and Nala Sopara but succumbed to their injury later.

Palghar Police said, “The rear part of the four-storey building of Ramabai Apartment collapsed late night. Rescue work is underway with the help of Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Fire Department and NDRF 2 teams. Unfortunately, two people died in the incident on spot while 11 people have been rescued from the debris and have been admitted to hospitals in Virar and Nala Sopara” shortly after the incident happened. So far the death toll have reached to 14 now.

The rescue operation is ongoing, with efforts focused on tracing others who may still be trapped. The Vasai Virar Police and local authorities are coordinating the relief efforts, ensuring a thorough search and rescue operation.
