3,250 Litres of Illicit Liquor Seized in Nayagarh, One Arrested

Nayagarh: Nayagarh Police seized a large consignment of illicitly manufactured (ID) liquor and arrested a 27-year-old man during a crackdown on illegal liquor trade in Odagaon area on Saturday.
The seizure was made by a team from Odagaon Police Station near Rohibanka after police received reliable information about an illegal liquor consignment being transported through the area.

According to police, an Ashok Leyland pickup van travelling from Karchuli in Ganjam district towards Odagaon was intercepted during checking. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 65 jari bags containing liquor pouches.
Each bag contained 500 pouches of 100 ml each. In total, police recovered 32,500 pouches containing around 3,250 litres of illicit liquor.
The arrested person has been identified as Chinmaya Pradhan (27), son of Dhoba Pradhan of Karchuli Main Road under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district.
Police also seized the pickup van bearing registration number OD32G-6817, which was allegedly being used to transport the illegal liquor.
A case has been registered at Odagaon Police Station under Section 52(a) of the Odisha Excise Act vide Case No. 307 dated August 29, 2026. The accused has been arrested and the Inspector of Odagaon Police Station is conducting the investigation.
Police said efforts are underway to identify the source of the illicit liquor and trace its backward and forward supply links.
The action was carried out as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the Odisha government’s campaign against illegal liquor and drug-related activities.
Nayagarh Police has urged members of the public to provide information about the illegal trade of liquor or drugs. Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
