Zero Night Celebrations in Bhubaneswar to End at Midnight, Police Issue Strict Guidelines

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of New Year 2026 celebrations, the Commissionerate Police has issued stringent guidelines to regulate Zero Night festivities in the state capital, warning of strict action against violators.
Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Suresh Dev Datta Singh on Monday announced that all bars, clubs, pubs, and hotels within the Commissionerate Police limits will be permitted to host New Year celebrations only till 12 midnight on December 31. After 12 AM, music will be completely prohibited and no DJ will be allowed at any venue. The CP cautioned that violations will invite zero tolerance, and offenders may be detained at police stations for the night.

As per the directive, organisers of Zero Night events must obtain prior permission from the concerned police station. All police stations have been instructed to prepare a list of celebration venues under their jurisdiction. Organisers are required to submit complete event details, including the names of celebrities or artists, the expected number of participants, and the maximum capacity of the venue. Roadside stages and public performances have been strictly banned.
The same rules will apply to celebrations held inside private premises such as apartment complexes and residential colonies. The CP stressed that organisers will be held accountable for any violations.
From 12.30 AM onwards, intensive checking will be conducted across the city. Police barricading will be put up at 18 key locations, including Master Canteen, Damana Square, KIIT Square, Laxmisagar, AG Square, Jayadev Vihar, Vani Vihar, Rajmahal Square, Jagamara, Kalpana, and Ravi Talkies.
Additionally, 18 extra police platoons will be deployed citywide, while watch teams will conduct checks at 29 major junctions. Four Quick Response Teams will remain on alert after midnight.
Special security arrangements will also be in place at prominent tourist and religious sites such as Nandankanan, Dhauli, Lingaraj Temple, and Khandagiri in view of the anticipated influx of visitors. The CP said women’s safety will be accorded top priority during the celebrations.
