Yashasvi Jaiswal Slams Back-to-Back Centuries to Strengthen Test Opener’s Case

Lincoln: Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive form in New Zealand, smashing his second consecutive century for India A in the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A on Saturday.

The left-handed batter scored 102 off 138 balls, including 16 boundaries and two sixes, at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln. He reached the three-figure mark in 127 deliveries before being dismissed by Dean Foxcroft.

Jaiswal shared a 175-run opening partnership with B Sai Sudharsan, putting India A in a commanding position. Sudharsan also struck a half-century, remaining unbeaten on 61 at tea, as India A reached 185/1, with Devdutt Padikkal batting on five.

Jaiswal’s latest century comes after his unbeaten 155 in the second innings of the previous unofficial Test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

The 23-year-old has made a strong comeback after a disappointing start to the tour, during which he managed scores of 17 and five in the first match and a duck in the first innings of the second.

His back-to-back centuries have strengthened his case for a place in India’s playing XI for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand, beginning on November 19 at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
