Woman Found Dead in Abandoned Well in Balangir, Murder Suspected

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, the body of a 40-year-old woman was recovered from an abandoned well on her farmland in Chitramunda village under Goimund Panchayat within Muribahal police limits in Balangir district on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Janaki Sahu. According to sources, she had left her home in the morning but failed to return even after several hours. Concerned over her whereabouts, family members along with villagers launched a search operation and later discovered her body inside the well at around 9:30 PM.

On being informed, police personnel from Muribahal police station, along with Kantabanji SDPO Laxminarayan Marandi, reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The body has been seized, and officials stated that it would be retrieved from the well after the arrival of a dog squad to assist in further examination.

Janaki is survived by her husband, Kishore Sahu, who has been working abroad for the past four years, and their three children, including two daughters and a son.

Meanwhile, locals have expressed suspicion over the circumstances surrounding her death, alleging that she may have been murdered and her body dumped in the well. Taking these concerns seriously, police have begun a detailed probe and are investigating all possible angles, including foul play.
