In a rare medical case, a baby with two heads but a single body and heart was born at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The newborn has two fully developed heads, two arms, two legs and two spinal columns, but shares a single abdomen and heart. The unusual birth has drawn attention at the hospital and in the surrounding area.

The mother, a resident of Tumudibandh in Kandhamal district, was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care after experiencing labour pain. She delivered the baby late on Sunday night.Weighing 2.6 kilograms, the newborn was immediately shifted to the Special Newborn Care Unit, or SNCU, under the Department of Paediatrics. The baby is currently under close medical supervision, with specialised equipment being used to monitor its condition.

Doctors describe the case as a rare and medically complex form of conjoined twins. According to medical information cited in the report, such cases occur in approximately one in three to four lakh births. A team of senior paediatric specialists is overseeing the newborn’s treatment.

Medical examinations are underway to assess the baby’s breathing, blood circulation and the functioning of its internal organs. Doctors have indicated that the chances of survival are low, given the complexity of the condition. A transfer to AIIMS for further treatment may also be considered.

Meanwhile, the mother’s condition is reported to be stable.
