PM Modi, President Murmu Set for Key Odisha Visit

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Odisha on June 20, where he will join President Droupadi Murmu for a series of programmes in Mayurbhanj district. The joint visit of the country’s top constitutional functionaries is being viewed as a significant event for the state.
The day’s engagements will begin with a visit to Pahadpur village, the native place of President Murmu, where both leaders are expected to offer prayers at the revered Santhali Jahera and Ho Jahera sacred groves. They will also tour a local school and a skill development centre, highlighting efforts aimed at improving education, employment opportunities and socio-economic development in tribal areas.

Ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on social media that the programme holds special significance as it will be attended by the President in her home district of Mayurbhanj.
Later in the afternoon, the President and the Prime Minister will participate in a major public event at Rairangpur to commemorate two years of the Odisha government. Organised under the theme “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara,” the programme will feature the inauguration and foundation stone laying of multiple projects collectively valued at more than ₹47,600 crore.
The development initiatives span several sectors, including power generation, transportation, industrial infrastructure, drinking water supply, healthcare, education, tourism and irrigation. Officials said the projects are aimed at accelerating economic growth, strengthening connectivity and creating employment opportunities, particularly in tribal and rural regions.
Among the major proposals to be launched are the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project, the expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station through two additional 660 MW units, and the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited project at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district.
Several other projects will also receive a boost, including a compressed biogas plant in Bhubaneswar, a new bridge over the Kathajodi River connecting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, road infrastructure upgrades in Boudh and Nuapada districts, the Kusumdihi Megalift Irrigation Project, an IGNOU Regional Centre, and a modern indoor badminton facility at Rairangpur.
The leaders are also expected to inaugurate a number of completed projects, including a 300-bed district headquarters hospital in Boudh, Atal Bus Stands, automated vehicle testing centres, irrigation infrastructure, railway multi-tracking projects, and sports and research facilities in Rairangpur.
The visit is expected to underscore the Centre’s continued focus on infrastructure expansion, tribal welfare and inclusive development across Odisha.
