PM Modi Addresses UPSC Centenary Celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the centenary celebrations of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, stressing the need for timely reforms in the examination and recruitment system.
He said India’s 21st-century work culture is based on “Pro-People, Pro-Active and Good Governance” and called for young people to join public service with a commitment to serving citizens. He also emphasised time-bound examinations, noting that delays can affect the careers of aspirants.
PM Modi said UPSC has maintained public trust through its 100-year journey and will play an important role in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047. He noted that India’s future will bring greater urbanisation and higher aspirations among citizens and youth.

Minister of State Jitendra Singh said around 65,000 appointments were made through UPSC during the NDA’s 12-year tenure, compared with about 45,000 during the UPA’s 10-year tenure, while recruitment transparency has improved.
UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar highlighted the use of AI to detect duplicate applications, OCR-based document evaluation and face authentication to strengthen examination security and fairness. Women currently account for around 30% of successful Civil Services candidates.
The centenary programme concluded year-long celebrations marking 100 years since UPSC was established in 1926. PM Modi also released a commemorative coin, stamp and book on 100 landmark judgments related to UPSC and public service commissions.
