Odisha Urges Centre to Protect State’s Rights Over Mineral Revenue

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has urged the Central Government to protect the financial rights of mineral-rich states and ensure that the State receives its rightful share from the mineral resources extracted from its soil.

The State said Odisha’s mineral resources are the wealth of its people and warned that any reform restricting its ability to generate revenue from its own natural resources could weaken its financial autonomy.

Odisha called upon the Centre to respect the rights of mineral-rich states and ensure that the benefits generated from the extraction of natural resources are shared fairly.

“Our resources cannot become someone else’s advantage at Odisha’s cost,” the State asserted, stressing the need to protect Odisha’s interests and uphold its rights over its mineral wealth.

The State further maintained that the revenue and benefits generated from Odisha’s natural resources should contribute to its economic development and the welfare of its people.
