Odisha Steps Up Livestock Rescue, Treatment Efforts Amid Floods

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has stepped up measures to protect livestock in flood-affected areas, with specialised teams carrying out rescue, vaccination and veterinary care operations across vulnerable regions.
According to an update issued by the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, teams deployed in the affected areas had rescued 77 animals and established eight temporary shelters as of August 17.

The department has also intensified preventive healthcare measures to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks. So far, 6,950 animals have been vaccinated, while veterinary teams have provided medical treatment to 3,627 animals.
Officials said field teams remain engaged in rescuing stranded livestock, arranging safe shelter, conducting vaccination drives and providing treatment to animals requiring medical attention.
The measures are focused on protecting cattle, goats and other livestock from the impact of flooding while preventing the spread of diseases in affected areas.
