Odisha Rains Lash Several Districts, Joda Records Season’s Highest 169.4 mm

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am today, according to the latest rainfall data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

Joda in Kendujhar district recorded the highest rainfall at 169.4 mm, emerging as the wettest location in the state during the period. It was followed by Papadahandi in Nabarangapur with 158.8 mm, Paikmal in Bargarh with 120 mm, and Kusumi in Mayurbhanj with 117 mm.

The IMD data showed that 47 stations across Odisha recorded heavy rainfall. Among the notable figures were Jharigaon in Nabarangapur with 112.6 mm, Joshipur in Mayurbhanj with 108 mm, Telkoi in Kendujhar with 106.4 mm, Champua in Kendujhar with 103.4 mm, Naraj in Cuttack with 98.4 mm, and Lephripara in Sundargarh with 98.1 mm.

Several other locations in districts such as Balasore, Koraput, Sambalpur, Puri, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Debagarh, Malkangiri, Angul and Kandhamal also received substantial rainfall.

Rainfall recorded at many stations ranged between 65 mm and 98 mm, indicating widespread monsoon activity across the state.

The rainfall pattern was particularly pronounced over northern and western Odisha, where several districts witnessed intense showers.

With heavy rain continuing in several areas, residents in vulnerable and low-lying locations have been advised to remain cautious and stay alert to the possibility of waterlogging, localised flooding and related disruptions.
