Hirakud Dam Opens Four More Gates as Reservoir Level Rises, Total 16 Gates Open

Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities on Monday night opened four additional sluice gates as the reservoir continued to receive rising inflows, taking the total number of operational gates to 16.

According to an order issued at 9 pm, 11 sluice gates on the left spillway and five on the right spillway are currently open to regulate the rising water level.

The dam is presently releasing around 2,88,742 cusecs of water, while the discharge through the spillway has been recorded at 2,54,496 cusecs.

Officials are keeping a close watch on the reservoir’s inflow, storage level and overall water situation. Further action regarding gate operations will depend on the inflow and changing reservoir conditions.
