Odisha Government Team Reaches Tamil Nadu to Assist Workers Affected by Gas Leak Tragedy

Chennai: A senior Odisha government delegation arrived in Tamil Nadu on Monday to oversee relief efforts and provide assistance to workers affected by a tragic gas leak incident that left several Odia labourers dead and many others injured.

The team is headed by Rajesh Agrawala, Special Secretary of the Labour and ESI Department, and is coordinating with local authorities to ensure medical support, legal formalities, and welfare measures for the victims and their families.

Officials said the body of one deceased worker was brought to Chennai late on Sunday night, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted. M.M. Paik, a member of the Odisha delegation, has been assigned to remain in Chennai and work closely with labour department officials and hospital authorities to facilitate the post-mortem process and other necessary procedures.

Meanwhile, Rajesh Agrawala and B.B. Acharya are travelling to Tiruvallur district, where several injured workers are undergoing treatment. Some of the victims are reported to be in critical condition. Another deceased worker’s body is currently being kept in Tiruvallur.

In the wake of the incident, nearly 130 affected workers have been accommodated in a nearby community hall and mandap, where arrangements for food, shelter, and other essential services have been made.

The Odisha government team has established communication with senior officials of the Labour Department in Chennai and Tiruvallur and is working in coordination with the local administration to ensure timely assistance and support.

The state government is closely monitoring the situation and has assured all possible help to the injured workers, affected families, and those displaced by the incident. Further updates are expected as rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts continue.
