Odisha Charts Roadmap to Boost Exports, Eyes Stronger Global Market Presence

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has begun work on a dedicated strategy to accelerate export-driven growth, bringing together policymakers, industry representatives and export experts to identify opportunities and challenges in the State’s export sector.
The discussions took place during a two-day consultative workshop on Odisha’s export ecosystem held in Bhubaneswar on June 11 and 12. Organised by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics under the Planning and Convergence Department, the workshop focused on improving the State’s competitiveness in international markets and preparing a roadmap for sustained export growth.
Senior officials, including Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh, participated in the deliberations along with representatives from key government departments and export promotion agencies.
Addressing the gathering, Singh stressed the importance of exports in driving economic development and highlighted Odisha’s potential to expand its footprint in global trade. Referring to the State’s rich maritime history and skilled workforce, he said Odisha is well-positioned to tap emerging opportunities despite growing uncertainties in the global trade environment.
“Exports are essential for the State’s economic progress and future growth,” Singh said.
Participants reviewed Odisha’s existing export profile, examining major commodities, production clusters and sectors with high growth potential. Discussions centred on addressing bottlenecks related to logistics, infrastructure, financing, certification, compliance requirements and market access.
Special sessions were held on sectors such as agriculture, seafood and manufacturing, while stakeholders also explored opportunities in handlooms, handicrafts, engineering products and electronics. The need for stronger logistics support, export finance, insurance coverage and testing facilities was also highlighted.
Representatives from organisations including APEDA, ECGC, EEPC, MPEDA, ORMAS, APICOL and other agencies took part in the consultations.
A major outcome of the workshop was the identification of priority export sectors and potential international markets for Odisha’s products. Participants also discussed ways to strengthen value chains and improve the competitiveness of local industries in global markets.
Officials said the recommendations emerging from the workshop will help shape a comprehensive export strategy aimed at increasing market access, strengthening infrastructure and unlocking the export potential of key sectors across the State.
The initiative reflects the State Government’s broader push to build a robust and globally competitive export ecosystem that can contribute significantly to Odisha’s long-term economic growth.
