Odisha Braces for Intense Pre‑Monsoon Showers

Odisha braces for heavy rainfall as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts for multiple districts. Pre‑monsoon showers continue across the state, with forecasts indicating the monsoon will touch Odisha during Raja festival.
Authorities placed Malkangiri, Koraput, and Mayurbhanj under an orange warning for Thursday, citing risks of intense rain accompanied by lightning and thunder. Twenty‑seven other districts remain under a yellow alert. On June 12, the entire state will be under a yellow warning for thunderstorms, with seven districts expected to face heavy rainfall: Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
The IMD noted that strong winds of 30–40 km/h may accompany showers in several areas. Despite the rain, daytime temperatures are not expected to change significantly over the next three days.
Meteorologists confirmed that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into Odisha within two to three days, coinciding with Raja Sankranti. The seasonal shift is expected to bring widespread rainfall and relief from the prevailing heat.
