Odisha Allows Extended Night Hours for Naini Coal Transportation

The Angul district administration in Odisha has extended the permitted hours for coal transportation from the Naini coal mine, allowing vehicles to operate between 11 pm and 5 am. The revised six-hour window is expected to accelerate coal movement and help Genco achieve its coal supply targets.

Genco has been transporting coal from the Naini mine to the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) since August 2026. However, progress remained below the planned level due to restrictions imposed by the local administration, which had limited road transportation from the mine to the railway siding to the four-hour period between midnight and 4 am.

Seeking a solution, Genco Chairman and Managing Director S Harish and Director (Coal and Logistics) B Nagya met the Angul district collector. During the meeting, they highlighted the importance of ensuring adequate coal supplies to the company’s thermal power plants and requested additional time for transportation. The administration subsequently agreed to extend the operating window.

## Telangana Transco Wins Award for Lowest Transmission Losses

The Transmission Corporation of Telangana Limited (TG Transco) has been recognised for recording the lowest transmission losses in the Southern Region during the financial year 2025-26. The corporation received the honour at the Power Line TransTech India Utility Awards 2026 in New Delhi.

TG Transco reported transmission losses of 2.20 per cent in FY 2025-26, following 2.19 per cent in the previous financial year and 2.30 per cent in FY 2023-24. The latest recognition marks its second consecutive year of receiving the award.

G Sampath Kumar, Director (Grid and Transmission Management), accepted the award on behalf of the corporation.

The achievement comes amid growing electricity demand in Telangana. The state recorded a record peak power demand of 20,018 MW on October 16, 2026. Since Telangana was formed in 2014, TG Transco has more than doubled its network capacity to support the state’s expanding power requirements.

To strengthen the transmission infrastructure further, the corporation is undertaking several projects, including the construction of new substations and transmission lines, expansion of existing facilities, bus bifurcation and improvements in voltage regulation and reactive power management. These initiatives are being implemented in coordination with distribution companies to enhance grid performance and ensure a reliable power supply.
