Naveen approves Rs 1500cr master plan for OUTR

Bhubaneswar, May 10: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved a Rs 1500 crore masterplan for the makeover of the Odisha University of Technical Education and Research (OUTR) here.
OUTR was formerly known as the College of Engineering and Technology (CET).
The Chief Minister reviewed the infrastructure, management and teaching of OUTR and suggested that the university be made a leading institution in the field of technical education and research.
He also emphasized on the quality of education and research.
With emphasis on high quality teaching, new courses will be opened for new age technology and more Centers of Excellence will be set up to promote human resource development and inter-departmental research programmes.
In addition, teaching and research will be carried out in partnership with universities in the country and abroad. Incubation Centers will also be developed in collaboration with various leading industrialists to encourage Startup culture among entrepreneurs and develop entrepreneurial spirit among them.
The infrastructure will be transformed through the development of human resources, starting from the infrastructure.
It will cost Rs 1,500 crore in three phases in three years. In the first year alone, Rs 1,000 crore will be invested and developed on the lines of well-known technical institutions such as IIM, IIT and NIT.
With 400 students currently studying at OUTR, it will be developed in the IIT framework with a view to providing 10,000 students with the opportunity to study in the next five years.
Special attention will be paid to how new patents and intellectual property rights can be obtained with research within universities.
Recently the Secretary to the Chief Minister 5T VK Pandian visited OUTR (CET) to discuss the development of the institution with faculty and students.
