Maoist dump unearthed in Koraput, firearms, bombs, IED’s seized

Bhubaneswar: The security forces have unearthed a major cache of arms, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) believed to belong to Maoist cadres during a search operation in Tentuligumma forest under Boipariguda police limits in Koraput, police informed.
They have seized cache of firearms, explosives and ammunition during a search operation.
Acting on intelligence gathered from surrendered Maoists, personnel of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) conducted a search in the forest and recovered six country-made firearms, eight tiffin bombs, four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), detonators, live ammunition and a large quantity of explosive materials.
Police suspect the recovered weapons and explosives belonged to Maoist cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) and were intended for use in attacks on civilians and security personnel.
The officials said this was the second major Maoist dump recovered in the district within the past two weeks. On June 22, security forces had seized an INSAS rifle, arms, ammunition, IEDs and other incriminating materials from the Badlipahad forest under Boipariguda police station limits.
Police said search operations are continuing in the forested areas of Koraput to trace more hidden dumps.
