Manohar Lal urges states to make Swachhata Hi Seva a mass movement

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal has urged States and Union Territories to turn Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 into a strong public movement through greater community participation.

The minister reviewed preparations for the month-long campaign, being observed from September 17 to October 17, and stressed the need for visible improvements in cleanliness along with sustained efforts.
He also reviewed plans for the ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ cleanliness drive scheduled for October 1. States have been asked to organise large-scale Shramdaan activities and ensure that cleanliness efforts continue beyond the campaign day.

The initiative will involve urban local bodies, public representatives, resident welfare associations, youth groups and social organisations. In 50 cities, the focus will be on clean surroundings, scientific waste management, safe sanitation and greater public participation, supported by technology-based monitoring.
