Man pretending to be a Secretariat Officer arrested in Bhubaneswar for fraud and staging fake raids

Bhubaneswar: A person impersonating to be an Inquiry Officer of Secretariat and cheating a travel agency, along with threatening the public by organizing fake raids, has been arrested by the Nayapalli police in Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, the accused reportedly used to don formal attire and presented himself as a top-ranked Secretariat official, with fake raids in Puri, Konark, and Khordha using intimidation by dint of government power.

Police officials said the accused managed to hire an expensive car from a travel agency after producing fraudulent credentials and has taken advantage of it for over 15 days.

Besides organizing inspections and raids on others, he defrauded the travel agency of over Rs 1.5 lakh, a rental charge, added officials.

After receiving a complaint from the agency, the police took up an inquiry and later apprehended the culprit.

The police are trying to determine if he only defrauded the travel agency or extorted or threatened others with his fake identity.

Also they are probing if the accused was being helped by any other person.
